Sixteen years ago, I started one-on-one private tutoring in the back office of my family’s laundry business.
It was not glamorous. I was helping run two businesses, working long hours, and doing whatever needed to be done.
But I was proud of what I was building. My students were learning, the businesses were doing well, and life felt steady.
Then the pandemic hit.
Almost overnight, everything changed.
Many of my students stopped coming because of social distancing. Others had to step away because their families were dealing with financial pressure. At the same time, we sold our laundry business.
Suddenly, the life and routine I had worked so hard to build were no longer there.
It was a difficult time because there were so many unknowns. I had to think about my family, our future, and what I wanted the next chapter of my life to look like.

I knew one thing for sure: I did not want to stay stuck waiting for life to return to normal.
So I adapted.
I began tutoring online and continued serving the students who stayed with me. It was different. It was unfamiliar.
But it taught me something I still carry with me today: when life changes unexpectedly, you may not be able to control the situation, but you can control how you respond to it.
That experience changed the way I look at major life transitions.
Sometimes a change comes by choice. Sometimes it arrives before you are ready.
Either way, it can feel overwhelming when your career, finances, family, and future are all moving at the same time.
That is one of the reasons I understand professionals who are facing a relocation.
Selling a home while preparing for a major move is not just a real estate transaction. It is a life transition.
There are deadlines, financial decisions, uncertainty, and often a hundred other things competing for your attention.
I know what it feels like when the path in front of you suddenly changes.
And I also know the value of having a clear plan, staying calm, adapting quickly, and moving forward with confidence.
Today, that is the kind of experience I want to create for the people I serve.
I help professionals facing tight relocation timelines sell their homes successfully without sacrificing price or peace of mind.

What are the first steps I should take when considering buying a home in New York?
Start by assessing your financial situation, including credit score, savings for a down payment, and budget. Then, get pre-approved for a mortgage to understand your buying power.
This depends on your long-term plans, financial stability, and lifestyle preferences. Buying can be a good investment and offer stability, but renting provides flexibility and less responsibility for maintenance.
What should I know about the New York real estate market before buying?
Research local market trends, such as average home prices, inventory levels, and the typical time homes stay on the market. This can vary greatly between urban areas like Detroit and rural regions.
How much down payment do I need to buy a home in New York?
Typically, a down payment of 20% is ideal to avoid private mortgage insurance (PMI). However, there are programs available that allow lower down payments, even as low as 3-5%.
Are there any first-time homebuyer programs or incentives in New York?
Yes, New York offers several programs for first-time homebuyers, including down payment assistance and tax credits. Check with the State Housing Development Authority for current programs.
What are the key factors to consider when choosing a location to buy a home in New York?
Consider factors like proximity to work, quality of local schools, neighborhood safety, local amenities, and potential for property value appreciation.
As a renter, how can I prepare for the transition to owning a home in New York?
Start saving for a down payment and closing costs, work on improving your credit score, and begin researching different neighborhoods and types of homes that fit your budget and lifestyle.
What are the average property taxes in New York, and how do they affect home affordability?
Property taxes in New York vary by location. It's important to factor in these costs when determining the affordability of a home, as they can significantly impact your monthly budget.
How do I find a reliable real estate agent in New York?
Look for an agent with experience in your desired area and a strong track record of helping buyers. Ask for referrals from friends or family, or search for agents with positive reviews online.
What are the common pitfalls to avoid when buying a home in New York?
Avoid overextending your budget, neglecting home inspections, ignoring neighborhood research, and rushing into a purchase without proper due diligence. Take your time to make a well-informed decision.
